@metalhead I figured it out. For some reason the N64's volume level was way higher than all the other systems. So when I decreased the volume to 50%, I just couldn't hear the other emulators.

Such a dumb thing I overlooked.

Just had to adjust N64's config file.

      Thanks for your help!

      @jackknife18846

From what I hear, the Pi Zero W has trouble running NES games without certain optimizations. I hate to say, but I doubt you're going to get N64 running well at all.

@bobharris PI 2 model b V1.1 works awesome for me, there's just a little lag, and all I did was set overclock to high.

Did you see this at the top of the page?

"Please do not post a support request without first reading and following the advice in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first"

If you can complete the information requested in that post, then we will see what we can do to help.

@adampalmer My suggestion was that you don't have to install RP in a VM on the networked Linux system, I realised that it seemed to recommend to replace the whole PI with a PC - which in itself would not be such a bad idea. Unfortunately most of these systems, while small enough to compare to a RPI, are not in the same price range (Intel NUC or Gigabyte BRIX).
Going back to the original question, I guess you'd need to run an Login DM on the remote system and enable XDMCP and then run X -query <remote_ip> on the Pi, which will present you the login screen of the remote X server and you'll be able to run X11 apps directly from there (see more details at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/XDMCP).

@ranma looks like the fps counter is gone with the latest build from source. Maybe they figured it out and it's not needed anymore. Just know that if you update from source there is a chance there are new bugs.

get rid of the overclock. any stability/freezing problems = get rid of the overclock

i don't know why you're editing files. mupen64plus should get automatically configured when you configure your controller in ES. if you're using a proper n64 controller you may need to do some manual tweaks after that to get the c-buttons working nicely, but i would take one step at a time.

Do you know how buttons are mapped in mupen64plus? They are automatically configured, often times the WRONG way. You have to turn off hotkeys in autoconf.cfg and make controllers fully manual in mupen64plus.cfg. Then you have to set the right button mappings in InputAutoCfg.ini. Basically I set up the controls in ES, then I fix them in InputAutoCfg.ini because if I don't, they are totally wrong.

As for the overclock, I am using a Mackertop 5.25v 3a PSU. Even at 1.4GHz, the system is totally stable. Everything else works fine, except N64. I guess I could try going to 1.3GHz and seeing what happens, but I don't think that's the problem.

@mitu Cool, good to know multiplayer shouldn't be a hassle. I figured Dualshock 4 would work on Bluetooth as well but I only have two of those, and my wife ever so occasionally games with me. Seeing as I have three PS3 controllers and I haven't used the PS3 in ages, especially in co-op, I'd rather use two PS3 controllers than the PS4 ones, even if I do think that the PS4 controller feels better (not as good as the Switch Pro controller, but that's neither here nor there). So if Bluetooth works without a bad lag then I'll probably stick with the PS3 controllers simply because I already have enough of those lying around. If Bluetooth isn't good enough then I'll either get a Bluetooth dongle, or a wired Switch Hori Pad.

@mankysteve I'm not sure where you read that but as an experiment I tried "Star Wars - Rogue Squadron (USA) (Rev A).n64" It runs with a lot of audio glitches and slowdown. I would not call it playable. I am using a Pi3 at stock settings and mupen64plus tested with all of the various plugins.
If you are determined to play it just mess around with the resolution and plug-ins using runcommand menu and see what feels best to you.

Ok. Can I check the card's read speed with win32 disk imager ? Didn't know that. Will try.

Anyways I wrote the default retropie 4.3 image on it, using the method I use everytime, so that's why I think about the card.

The network transfers on it seemed slow to me, too.

@carnagepie781 Depends. You haven't shared ANY details about your setup. You could be running the fastest, misconfigured PC, or a Raspbery Pi Zero. We have no idea, so anyone that replies has to make a LOT of assumptions. Please read the forum rules and post the required details from here.

I think you can just SSH in and delete the config file:

      opt/retropie/configs/%emulatorname%/cfg/default.cfg
