@mitu I'm sorry. I'm new. I am using lr-stella. I wasn't sure how to switch to the other emulator. Thanks. I'll check out that link. I've been Googling my butt off but nothing was coming up.

@menace23 are you going to the retropie setup script, manage packages, optional, reicast, configure/tools menu then input configuration? That’s the way I did it and it worked.

Check this out and you can get even 4 Atari joysticks connected with a single USB. Works great with my Raspberry Pi 4 and emulation station. https://www.icode.com/atari-joystick-usb-adapter-design/

The wired controllers would as long as you have a USB adapter. However, the infrared and 2.4ghz models will not.

Edit: Come to think of it, the infrared controllers would likely work as well with a USB infrared receiver and the proper drivers and capture software. I wouldn't recommend it though, as Infrared produces a lot of dropouts when gaming.

The RetroPie SDL fork is at https://github.com/RetroPie/SDL-mirror, for the Raspberry PI it uses the rpi-3 branch. In your case I'd try first an updated xpad driver and making sure the device is in Xinput mode. The xpad driver used by RetroPie is at github.com/paroj/xpad.

      Right!!

      If there’s anyone still there.

I’ve managed to change them so retroarch sees my numbered buttons. It still won’t save. When I go into input for user two and click bind default all it changes to how I want it. But it just won’t save!!

@redrumpanda Some things you can't dumb down much further, and the Wiki is already written (mostly) to be understood by laymen. But you'll need to be willing to learn and that always requires some time and effort.

Let's start by collecting more information:

Which operating system is on your Laptop? Are your Pi and Laptop connected via network?

@southblazia You don't need to install any additional drivers for a DS4, as soon as your pair it via Bluetooth it should be ready to be configured in ES. Please give more information about your setup as requested in https://retropie.org.uk/forum/topic/3/read-this-first.

@metalextractor said in Arcade Controller only works in some games:

There are just too many mame emulator directories by default :(

The choice depends on which romset you possess according to https://retropie.org.uk/docs/MAME/, providing that you have the correct known and verified set, it is plug and play with the emulators of your choice. I use lr-mame2003 with the 0.78 set and have never had an issue with anything.

@clyde said in 4 way to 8 way adjustable restrictor plate:

By the way, I always wondered why those restrictor rings can't be moved more smoothly.

I think the answer to that is a result of the industry we are building from. Back in the day it was good to have joysticks configurable so they apply to more game types but they were expected to be used in one configuration in the cabinet

I think you have a point there. Even in today's retro gaming community, cabinets that are dedicated to specific controls are not uncommon.

I wouldn't be surprised (or mind that much) if someone started producing new plates based on the above modification. I briefly thought about it but decided that the other overhead items that I would need to put in place first over rode any profit I might make on such a small item.

Also, the existing plates are most likely patented, so you would have have to design a new plate from scratch, get permission from the patent holders, or risk being sued.

@lonelik said in Can you naviguate in retropie shell menus with a joystick ?:

Maybe the keyboard is my js0...

You can check which device is mapped to js0 with this command in Retropies text console that you land in after pressing F4 in Emulation Station:

      jstest /dev/input/js0

      Ctrl + c aborts jstest.

Alternatively, this should list all input devices of the system:

(I say "should", because I am not at home at the moment and can't test the command on my own Retropie. It works on my Laptop's Kubuntu Linux, though.)

      less /proc/bus/input/devices

You can browse the list with your cursor keys or PgUp/PgDown. Exit the browser with Ctrl + c.

You get back to Emulation Station with the command exit.
