Editing resolv.conf will always be temporary, I believe. The system overwrites/edits resolv.conf at times so changes may not/probably won't stick. Unless you manually set an IP address on the Pi, you should be getting whatever DNS servers your router (or whatever device is the DHCP server) is set to hand out.
